How and When to Bring Up Personal Issues When Applying for Jobs
How and When to Bring Up Personal Issues When Applying for Jobs So youââ¬â¢re applying for jobs, but you have some serious needs based on personal considerations: youââ¬â¢re pregnant, or have kids, or require a particular kind of flexibility in order to maintain your work/life balance. Or perhaps youââ¬â¢re moving across the country, or you need to have a position somewhere close to your partner. You name it, youââ¬â¢re probably struggling with finding the right time to bring it up. Here are three stages in the job process and an outline of how and when to bring up personal issues when applying for jobs. Happy hunting! In Your Resume Cover LetterSay the company has boasted about their super-casual work culture and flexible hours. Youââ¬â¢re allowed to work at a beanbag and take three-hour lunches as long as you get your projects done. Or they have a fantastic family leave package and youââ¬â¢re planning to have a kid soon. Youââ¬â¢re secretly doing a happy dance, but you really shouldnââ¬â¢t show it. At least not yet.Sayin g how important flexibility and leave and casual scheduling might be to you could be interpreted by a hiring manager as a red flag in a cover letter. ââ¬Å"Ahoy! This guy is lazy and doesnââ¬â¢t really want to do the job!â⬠Save it for much later in the process. Or just be glad you found this opportunity and keep the celebration to yourself.During an InterviewThe good news is theyââ¬â¢re already interested. The bad is that you could easily blow it by asking about any of the above with too much eagerness or glee. Itââ¬â¢s still not the time to say, ââ¬Å"Hang onâ⬠¦ how many personal days do I get?â⬠Or: ââ¬Å"So I get how many weeks off for maternity leave?â⬠Stick with convincing them that youââ¬â¢re the most qualified candidate for the position and an asset to the company. Render yourself indispensable and then take advantage of the sweet perks this company can offer. When you get to the point in the interview when youââ¬â¢re invited to ask quest ions, you can casually inquire about the work atmosphere or culture, but thatââ¬â¢s about it.During NegotiationYou got the offer! Yes! Now is the time. If youââ¬â¢re, say, pregnant, or moving in a year, or in need of Friday mornings off to watch your kids, this is the ideal stage to broach the subject. Thereââ¬â¢s no right time, really, and youââ¬â¢ll probably be dreading it. But take a deep breath and say how delighted you are about the offer, then say you just have one small complication you wanted to make sure you addressed up front. If you get to such an advanced stage, however, you should make sure youââ¬â¢ve got the right read on the company. You wonââ¬â¢t make any friends by asking for things the company just canââ¬â¢t or wonââ¬â¢t provide. Pick your marks and shoot straight and steadily for them.

Research Enhanced Interpretation of a Short Story Paper - 1
Enhanced Interpretation of a Short Story - Research Paper Example Just like Grace dropped college in order to continue an affair with a married man, who was also much older than her, Hassan is a lazy, spoiled child who achieves his goals by cheating. Neither of them is able to accomplish the daring dreams of their parents. Although a character like Maureen would never admit it, she is pretty much similar to Hassanââ¬â¢s father, as she always tried to influence her daughterââ¬â¢s destiny and lead her to the ââ¬Ëright pathââ¬â¢, ignoring the childââ¬â¢s real wishes and intentions. Nonetheless, she has the wisdom to ultimately accept her daughterââ¬â¢s decisions. On the other hand, there is an interesting parent ââ¬â child relation between Maureen and her old mother. Maureen hates all the similarities between her mother and herself, and is extremely jealous of her motherââ¬â¢s close relationship to her granddaughter. On her turn, her mother is obviously enjoying the fact that she was preferred to Maureen, and obviously never misses an opportunity to lecture her daughter. Therefore, due to unrealistic expectations and hurt feelings, each of these relationships is a living failure. Besides, there is a broader parent ââ¬â child relationship generated by Maureenââ¬â¢s profession as a teacher, and her connection to each of her students ââ¬â as it is obvious that her indulgence for Hassanââ¬â¢s idleness and lies is somewhat motherly ââ¬â until the day she catches him cheating on the exam. Then, she decides to adopt a different attitude, by punishing him. Nando Pelusi says in the article ââ¬ËParents and Children in Conflictââ¬â¢, published on the website Psychology Today: ââ¬ËI always suspected that my father had it in for me. My dad was a brilliant showman and comedian who turned angry and intolerant around me. Perhaps our most authentic exchange occurred when, as an adult, I finally confronted him about his feelings toward me. He admitted that he thought that his new opportunities had been quashed by parenthood. Harsh? Sure. But

International relations Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
International relations - Essay Example This can be detrimental if there no other stronger economies to watch over or counter the influence of the economically superior country. At least, there should be countries with better GDP that can form a stronger coalition to resist the aggressive actions of the former. From the Goldstein text, United States appears to be one of the countries with strongest GDP of up to 14,000. U.S. has been seen in so many occasions undertaking military interventions in war-torn regions with the purpose of maintaining peace. Its superiority is therefore not in question but it aggressiveness and interest in these interventions begs some stream of answers. With such strong economy and wealth, it can use its influence to advance selfish interests that it may harbor (Goldstein, Whitworth, and Pevehouse 475). This can be so aggressive to the extent of undermining the sovereignty of other territorial boundaries. It may become even more intolerant to other small economies that questions its advancements, or may identify viable resources in other territorial regions that it may want to benefit from. This aggressiveness may not be possible to counter if the other countries are so weak economically that they cannot form a coalition to deal with the aggressive country. In this case, three countries may form a coalition that may be able to stop counter the actions of the United States in case it decides to go aggressive and wreak havoc on other economies or countries since they cannot match its s0uperiority. Among the countries capable of countering such a wave include China; with GDP of 9,500, Japan with GDP of 4, 400 and Germany with GDP of 3000. When combined their coalition can wield a combined GDP of 16, 900 capable of toppling the might of U.S in case it goes intolerably aggressive. U.S has been known for its superiority in advancing the aims of maintaining the worldââ¬â¢s stability though. However, its interest may surpass that of the common global good. The

Peace Essay Example for Free
Peace Essay Christianity and Islam have similar teachings on peace and it is evident that there is a strong relationship between these fundamental teachings and the ways in which the religious traditions and their organizations actively strive towards world peace. World peace is understood in both faiths, not just as an absence of violence and conflict, but also as an overall sense of wellbeing and social cohesion. Inner peace is essential in achieving world peace, and must be attained in order to work towards peace at a higher level. Christianity teaches that peace is Christââ¬â¢s parting gift and a concept that begins with Him, ââ¬Å"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give youâ⬠(John 14:27). The Catholic peace movement ââ¬Å"Pax Christiâ⬠stands for the ââ¬Ëpeace of Christââ¬â¢ and has launched a policy for a culture of peace and non-violence. ââ¬Å"Pax Christiâ⬠uses the teaching of the peace of Christ to guide them, calling adherents to state that they are recognizing their responsibility to ââ¬Å"respect lifeâ⬠¦practice active non-violence [and] defend freedomâ⬠(Pax Christi International Manifesto for a Culture of Peace and Non Violence 1999) in order to contribute to the achievement of world peace. Islam teaches that peace can only be attained through the submission to Allahââ¬â¢s will. One is able to submit to Allah through the process of jihad, which is to struggle to overcome the obstacles in the way of submission, or the process of Shahada. The Sufism movement provides Muslims with a path to follow in order to contribute to the attainment of world peace through 3 stations. These mirror the teaching that peace can only be found in Allah, encouraging the submission as the initial step in moving towards world peace, ââ¬Å"Submitting ourâ⬠¦bodies to Allah is Sufismâ⬠(Sufism Equals to Islam). The teaching of submission and anticipation of pleasing Him, establishes a Muslims role in actively working towards achieving world peace. The Quakers are a Christian denomination that follows the principal teaching of pacifism, as modelled by Jesusââ¬â¢ ministry. Christââ¬â¢s teaching of the Beatitudes is fundamental in guiding the Quakers, especially in ââ¬Å"Blessed are the peacemakersâ⬠(Matthew 5:9). The Quakers work towards world peace through things such as rallies and marches for peace and justice, as well as campaigning and raising awareness about social justice and supporting those looking for an alternative to violence. The Quakerââ¬â¢s choice to refrain from war to contribute to world peace can be seen by their silent vigils against war, such as that in King George Square. In 1660, the Quakers presented ââ¬Å"A Declaration from the Harmless and Innocentâ⬠¦Quakersâ⬠, which has been the basis for the Quakerââ¬â¢s peace testimony in which they strive towards attaining world peace. Rufus Jones, a Quaker, stated that Quakers have an ââ¬Å"obligation to assist and to forward movements and forces which make for peace in the worldâ⬠(The Quaker Peace Position). Peace is a fundamental aim of Islam and teaches that war is only permitted to overcome oppression and tyranny. The Qurââ¬â¢an teaches that ââ¬Å"whosoever killed a soulâ⬠¦it is as if he had killed all mankindsâ⬠(Al-Madiah 5:32). However, this is overlooked due to common misconceptions about the Islamic faith, especially due to exploitation by the media. After the violent aftermath of the London bombings in 2005, the NSW Islamic Council stated on their website, ââ¬Å"We firmly hold the view that these killings and atrocities have absolutely no sanction in Islamâ⬠¦terrorismâ⬠¦has no support fromâ⬠¦the Islamic communityâ⬠¦and would never be endorsedâ⬠. Partnerships exist between Muslim, Jewish and Christian organizations so that their voices arenââ¬â¢t overlooked, for example the 1991 ââ¬ËPrayer for Peaceââ¬â¢ in which it was asked, ââ¬Å"Forgive our violence towards each otherâ⬠. Even though overlooked by the media, Muslims work tirelessly towards world peace. Christianity expresses that justice must come before peace is achieved. In 1972, in the World Day of Peace Message, the Catholic Pope Paul VI said, ââ¬Å"If you want peace, act for Justiceâ⬠. Accordingly, the Decade to Overcome Violence (DOV), seek peace, justice and reconciliation. In a report titled, ââ¬Å"Called Together to be Peacemakersâ⬠, Catholics and Mennonites hoped to work together to assist the WCCââ¬â¢s DOV, stating, ââ¬Å"Our similar identities as ââ¬Ëpeace churchesââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ ¦our commitment to be followersâ⬠¦of Jesus Christâ⬠¦Prince of Peace. â⬠They quote John Paul II in the World Day of Peace (2002), ââ¬Å"no peace without justiceâ⬠, adding, ââ¬Å"in the absence of justiceâ⬠¦peace is a mirageâ⬠¦justice is an inseparable companion of peaceâ⬠(CTBP 177). It is evident, the relationship between the doctrine of justice before peace, and then the actions to chieve this to strive towards world peace. The Qurââ¬â¢an teaches that, ââ¬Å"Allah guides thoseâ⬠¦to the ways of peaceâ⬠¦and guides them to a straight pathâ⬠(5:16), often termed ââ¬Ëthe paths of peaceââ¬â¢. This teaching of being guided on a path of peace is demonstrated by the organization Muslim Peace Fellowship, declaring on their website that their main objectives are to ââ¬Å"work together with all people of good will to keep open the straight pathâ⬠and to ââ¬Å"work against injustice and for peaceâ⬠¦in our worldâ⬠(Muslim Peace Fellowship Blog). This organization actively seek world peace through the use of conferences, publications, speeches and interreligious action, as well as interior work and prayer. Evidently, principal teachings in both Christianity and Islam help to guide and encourage both their roles in the attainment of world peace. The fundamental teachings act as guidelines to be interpreted by current followers in order to play a role in the triumph of world peace. There is a strong correlation between the theoretical principal teachings and he actions performed by leaders and adherents to gain peace at a world level.

Aviation Essay -- essays research papers
There are several factors that enabled Wilbur and Orville Wright, two high school dropouts, to produce a successful airplane controlled by a pilot. The Wright brothers were self-educated and very experienced with several types of technologies when they began their efforts to produce an airplane. Having worked as bicycle mechanics, they understood the importance of several technologies working together to create one particular design, as well as the significance of balance. The brothers worked well together, learning from past attempts at aviation, and drawing from otherââ¬â¢s findings, in addition to discovering many of their own. One of the most distinct differences in their attempt from other aviators was that the brothers began by first learning to fly and control the airplane in glider fo...
